Mary Krause Receives ACYCP President’s Award 2021
In November 2021, Jody Rhodes, President of the Association for Child and Youth Care Practice, visited the CYCCB Office in Texas to award Mary Krause, CYCCB Certification Manager, with the 2021 ACYCP President’s Award. The award recognizes extraordinary service and contributions to the field of child and youth work.
Mary started working in the CYCCB and Academy Offices in 2014. Mary’s time is devoted to processing certification applications. Few people have the specialized expertise that Mary has in being able to dig through mounds of support documentation that practitioners submit to determine what is acceptable and what is not. On a daily basis, Mary serves our profession and our practitioners by making sure that every person certified meets the highest standards in the industry and that every practitioner meets the required standard. Few people in the profession have that kind of responsibility. She does this three days a week for 50 weeks out of every year.
One of the things we most appreciate about Mary is how she does her job. She cares every day. When practitioner call the office confused about what they need to do, she very patiently explains and walks them through the process step-by-step. Her patience is extraordinary. Most people don’t realize that from Mary’s point of view, her job is to help people get certified, not keep them from becoming certified. She works very hard to be sure that people get full credit for the professional development documentation they submit for each competency domain. In some cases, she has to completely reorganize their submission so the right number of hours are credited to each competency domain. She goes the extra mile…every day.
Mary is one of the unsung heroes of our profession that deserves to be recognized in her extraordinary role within our professional community. We quite literally couldn’t be the profession we are without her contribution.
